Today, I am speaking from a standpoint of experience and truth [as always, of course]
I’m on a bit of a midlife run at the moment. Because I enjoy it.
Because I live it. And because I want You, fellow Mid lifer, to enjoy yours as well.
Last week I wrote about 5 ‘must have’s’ to thrive in your midlife years.
This week, I want to give you more hope and more inspiration for having a great adventure beyond the age of 40.
Up until your 40th year, you have been practising for what lies ahead.
You have been honing skills preparing you to enter an adventure like you’ve never experienced before. [You may not realise this but believe me, you have]. You are just getting started!
Life expectancy is continually expanding. I don’t have the exact facts but @ 40 you are only around half way “there” [on average].
So as I see it, if you are currently around the 40 mark [or beyond], it makes perfect sense that you take the steps to look after your body and your mind so that you extract every ounce of life out of your remaining 40 years or so.
There’s no “letting yourself go”, life is too precious for that.
You don’t need to exercise or have a diet like an olympic athlete, however be sensible about it, You have years of improvement left in you.
I’ve found since I turned 40, that I have gotten stronger and fitter than I was pre 40.
It’s a challenge.
Not a problem challenge but an engaging one and I am still seeing the benefits … and so can You.
I mentioned earlier about practising life before 40.
After 40 is the time for You to unlock and tap into your potential. Stretch yourself like a rubber band.
Experience. Enjoy. Embrace. Strive. Take action.
Yes you can and You must “Enjoy”. Enjoy the challenge to improve yourself,while at the same time you are discovering more about your capabilities.
See how much of your potential can be brought to the surface. Picture the result[s] in your mind. [Even as I’m writing this, I am thinking of fresh ideas that I can explore which will allow me to expand.]
When you have the picture in your mind you can then act upon it and bring it to life.
You need to challenge yourself to bring out your best both physically and mentally.
Engage with your inner guru. Don’t just accept “what is”. Ask yourself “what if” and go get it! … by doing it!
You are capable of this.
1. Set 5 year Plans
As loose or as detailed as you want. Use them as ‘markers’ as you progress through the years. Call them ‘stop off’ points if you like.
You can then look back [briefly] and see if you are on track, how far you have come, make any necessary adjustments.
2. Never worry about getting old[er].
You are meant to. Simply be grateful for the opportunity, as sadly, many don’t make it.
Age like a fine wine. Mellow a little but don’t “fall asleep at the wheel”, there’s still the spark to be kept lit.
3. Find your Purpose or what will ensure that your life is purposeful [for You]
What sparks you up? what are you really passionate about?
What excites You? What do you enjoy doing every day?
Nail this down then keep it going.
4. Know in your mind that the next day will be even better than today.
It’s a mental thing AND it’s powerful.
Believe that you will keep going and that there is no end. Which means that you have another day to look forward to … and another.
This strategy keeps me mentally alert … I am only thinking about living now and getting better day by day.
5. Refuse to let your ‘music’ die.
Your creativity, your imagination, your dreams. Keep the spark alive.
You had them in your earlier years. You bring them alive in your mid life years AND you create more dreams as you progress along.
Your creativity doesn’t stop. If it does then You stop.
All those dreams and imaginings can’t lay dormant. They are your music. Bring them out. Play your best tune.
