Would you consider yourself to be a Circle,  maybe a Triangle,  a Square perhaps, what about an Oblong or even a straight line?

What is this guy going on about?

Geometry was always a puzzle to me when at school. Though I did delight in the shapes and lines that formed works of Art, or at least in my mind they did.

Life is often a puzzle and I’m sure that You, like me have wondered on occasion “where do I fit in to all of this?”.. And that’s really the point of this exercise.

I always liked Triangles … they come with 3 points of view. Not too many points [like hexagons for example] just enough to weigh up any situation.

Squares and oblongs had their fascination but they gave me the feeling of being ‘boxed in’.Blog24

Circles .. ah yes. No rigid shape here. Fluid like, carefree but the perimeter line going around and around? … lacked a sense of direction to me … though I do love the freedom, the fluidity.

Straight line … now nothing beats a straight line in my opinion. Nothing fancy, just pure direction. No deviation, just pure direction. The only problem I see is that straight is fine .. as long as you know where you’re going.

Your life may be full steam ahead or it may have twists and turns or may have even come to a full stop.

If you live life as a triangle then your ability to look at life with different points of view will stand you in good stead.

If you’re a square or oblong then your choices are probably limited. You are in the crowd, not standing out from the crowd. Your thoughts remain “in the box”, rigid, processed.

If you follow the life of a circle you are much more carefree to a point. And that’s the point because you continually arrive back at the point where you started … until you start again … and again, still arriving back at the same point. You may enjoy the carefree nature however there will be a time to “move on” and explore outside your circle of influence.

The straightliner … wheels spinning, rarin’ to go. Knows where he/she wants to go. Head down, pedal to the metal. This person will blast through life have some wins, some losses. At some point when the gas runs out, the straightliner may wish that he/she had stopped to smell some roses … or taken a detour or two to see what life offered outside the fastlane.Blog23

The Geometric terms that I’ve used here are just for gloss and bear no direct relevance to the storyline. I mean, am I going to call you a square or a triangle? goodness No.  However the stories attached to them do. You and I probably know a few people that live their lives in the geometric forms that I have suggested. [Otherwise I really suck at storytelling … and that may be true].

Choice is always paramount. Being aware of “Choice” even more so.  Therefore if you feel boxed in, are on a straight line to nowhere in particular, going around in circles or are lacking in having alternative points of view … try something different.

Try to avoid being shaped by others. Create your own identity that suits you and fulfills you ….. whether that be fitting in with the crowd or standing out from the crowd. Your Choice.

    Hi David,
I like the idea of the circle and the straight line. The circle might be my inner self and the straight line the outer me with goals. Great post!!

      Hi Betsy,
That’s a great observation! I knew the “shapes” would make good sense to some.

That’s a great way of looking at personality types David. I’m sure like most people I am a mixture of different shapes but there is definitely a predominant shape that rules my life. An excellent exercise for everyone to think about – thanks mate. 🙂

My life has the tendency to shaped as a triangle. More often than not I find myself going in one directions, changing my mind, and then cutting off at a right angle into another direction. This may seem ridiculous but I do learn a lot from experience this way. 😉

      Hi Glynis,
Learning is so important. Often we need to change direction to do so. Keep going …
