When you tire of Life’s Journey, seek The Adventure instead

Hi there, “Life is a Journey”. Now here’s a well worn phrase, I’m sure that you have heard this many times.

However, do you really want to be on or go on, a “journey”?

Sounds a bit tiresome to me to be honest. Especially when we are talking about my Life and your Life. I want to be as fresh as possible, not worn out. I’m pretty sure that you would prefer that also, given the choice.

How about this as an alternative, Life is an Adventure!

That’s better, I’m feeling fresher already.

Let’s embark together [or you can go it alone if you wish] on an adventure, Life’s Adventure  and seeing that I am writing this post, that’s what it will be “an adventure”.Life's journey is really An Adventure

What type of adventure though?

Backpack, raincoat, hiking boots and sometime muddy boots in the Daintree?  that’s Australia folks, pristine Rainforest.  I intend adventuring there soon.

Or will it be…

sipping martinis while lounging in your deckchair on an ocean liner [no Titanics please]

cruising the Mediterranean or perhaps the South Pacific?

enjoying french wine [Australian is better] & fine vintage cheese relaxing in first class at 35000 feet?  touch down in Rio, Paris, LA maybe

driving your own vehicle, stopping off when you want and embracing the warm kiss of the sun, a magical dawn or dipping your toes into the sea? Be it anywhere in the world that catches my fancy.

Would you prefer an adventure where you follow your own nose [intuition like], take action, enjoy the “scenery” and make your own choices?

On this Life Adventure, [the above would be nice however I’m really talking about living your Life in an adventurous way]you enjoy and embrace the good bits, learn from the bad bits and overall simply revel in the “doing”.

This is where your adventure starts and continues …  Keep doing, keep adventuring! [and who knows, you may end up in the Mediterranean or Rio]

OR Do you really want your life to be a journey where you pick up a piece of “advice” here and there, search for your true inner self, try to find your purpose, while waiting for the next mystical revelation to journey on with?

Your journey may end up at the station where you left from.

The point behind my ramble is that everybody seems to be on a “journey”.  You read about it all the time.

I got tired of mine sometime back. I joined the few who have the enjoyment of seeking and creating their very own Life Adventure.

Adventurers take their own action.

True adventurers may seek help from time to time [which is great advice by the way ], however they do that on their own terms.

Your ‘adventure’ can be as simple or as broad as you like, you can travel out and about or simply travel within and grow and explore, on a personal basis.

The beauty is … that it is Your Adventure.

Those on a journey, waiting for the next mystical epiphany, can get lost, dis orientated and generally disillusioned [when the love dries up or is not returned, when their gurus change direction or gets a “real job” or when they eventually realise, that their heart is for pumping blood not leading them to Nirvana ].

What is missing here, is for the  journey people  to take their own ACTION. Don’t follow, but act from your own power source.

Adventurers use their own power and imagination.

Now don’t get me wrong. “Love” and “following your heart” are important and valuable allies in your quest for an adventurous life. However they alone will not get you there. To rely on them solely [at the beckoning of others] is folly. And Gurus come and go.

You will enjoy an adventurous life [and remember, the ‘adventure’ is whatever you make it] when You make the choice to do so. .. and then take the action.I don’t want to see you slogging a ‘journey to nowhere in particular’ ….. make it an adventure to savour instead.

What do you think? Are you adventurous? Is the ‘journey’ becoming a slog?

David, I love this refreshing take on life. Recently I decided to go back to a day job and while I won’t do readings anymore, I still will blog and offer my course. I had a lot of cheerful celebrators (who does not like to put food on the table, I ask you??) I also had a few who seemed very disappointed. It’s as if The Magic Fairy did not arrive and put annual income in my pocket just from doing readings, and it should have, or their dreams aren’t valid?? I’m not sure, but our time here is our own to do with as we wish, and I for one am all in for following our intuition and signs while enjoying the ride 🙂

      Hi Julie,
Enjoy the ride, punctures and all … makes for an interesting adventure that’s for sure. Yes, some people expect the ‘magic fairy’ to change their life … the magic appears when You take the action, do the work, dream the dream and follow through. It’s really You who will determine your outcomes.
      Be good to yourself
and good luck with your day job

Super post David. I discovered many years ago after the death of my husband that life was one huge adventure and even through ups and downs it’s fabulous. Each adventurous segment has an ending and then it’s on to the next one, the only limits are those we impose. Life offers unlimited opportunities to experience a myriad of things…it’s up to us what we choose.

Yes Elle …”Choice” plays a major part. Choosing ‘adventure’ as opposed to monotony or sameness … well that’s a good choice in my book

Adventure is a much better word, David. It has a ring to it of fun and excitement. I’m guilty of using journey, so will definitely think about it next time and make sure it really applies. Thanks!

      Hi Cathy,
I like it as well .. it’s a fresher approach to life ..and it’s not a new word, time for it to be dusted off, me thinks.

I’d say my life is an adventure. I’m at a boring point right now, at least as far as physical adventures go. Yes, calling life a journey has me thinking about strolling down a road somewhere. It’s pleasant enough, but it isn’t exciting.

    • David Stevens July 3, 2013, 10:30 pm

Hope your ‘adventure’ gets better Glynis

Excellent article David. Life itself is an adventure – if we can learn to see every day as part of that we can enjoy every moment. Of course a change is as good as a rest as they say and sometimes I love to immerse myself into a different environment. 🙂

      Thanks Stuart,
There’s an adventure to be had if you want it

David – I appreciate what you’re saying. ‘Journey’ is simply the lexicon that has been picked up by those of us on a spiritual journey.

But yes, adventure is uplifting and fun. One of my dearest friends says that ‘each day you should have at least one adventure’. And you know ours was yesterday – having an electrician come to my place to an install and new cooktop and not finding the way to do it- it was like out of a Fellini movie- and yes, it was an adventure!! Fran

    • David Stevens July 4, 2013, 10:39 pm

      Hi Fran,
Thanks for being here. Yes ‘adventure’ is fun … and it’s uplifting … and I still prefer it to ‘journey’, spiritual or otherwise.
